One of the pathways to embracing a lifestyle that has a light footprint on the Earth, is finding ways to feel happy, satisfied, and even "luxurious" whilst living a simple lifestyle. In contrast to messages embedded in  our consumerist culture, we actually don't need a lot of materialistic "stuff" in order to feel good.

Psychological research shows that, once we have met our physical needs for shelter, food and health, the greatest predictors of well-being include:

  • connection with nature, each other and ourselves
  • staying awake to what is happening in the "here and now"
  • engaging in positive action towards protecting and caring for our world.

These are the very same steps that will also create planetary health.
